The Toronto 3D Stereoscopic Conference June 11-14, 2011 was the first of its kind in North America. The four-day celebration of everything 3D featured 65 presenters from various parts of the globe. It was truly an eclectic confluence of academia, industry, independent filmmakers and artists.

Where is the 3D Industry Going?

Hollywood has a slate of 40 3D productions that it plans to release over the next three years. However, the release of these films may slow down after Hollywood assesses how well recent 3D films did at the box office this summer. It’s important for the purposes of this paper to make a distinction between films produced for theatrical release and content that is purposed for television. Clearly from the literature reviewed (and summarized in the final section of this paper) most 3D content is destined for television.
